The check, verification and calibration of vortex flow transducers (flow meters) Metran-300, Metran-305, Metran-320 by means of a no-spill (simulation) method.

A calibrator is a specialized impulse generator, frequency meter and milliampermeter functionally combined in one device.

The calibrator operation principle consists in the generation of a periodic signal coming on a special calibrated input of a verified vortex flow transducer and the calibrator measurement of corresponding transducer output signals, in particular: output frequency signal, output unified current signal, output pulse repetition period. The parameters of an output signal, measured impulse and current signals, are calculated by the calibrator according to the calibrating table and chosen calibration point.

The flow transducer calibration is performed in compliance with the calibration table stored in the calibrator non-volatile memory storage. For each flow transducer there is a separate calibration table. In total, the calibrator non-volatile memory storage can store up to 40 tables separated in four sets containing 10 tables each. Each calibration table can have calibration data for several inside diameters of a flow transducer (up to 10). Up to six calibrating points can be entered for each nominal diameter. In the process of the flow transducer calibration the flow value (m3/h) can be corrected by the operator for any calibration point.

The flow transducer calibration is conducted both manually and automatically. In case of manual calibration it is necessary to manually choose a calibration point and start the calibration operation. In case of automatic calibration is is enough to give a command for a flow transducer calibration. The calibration is conducted for all the points provided in the calibration table and the final report on the results is completed. At the completion of the calibration one makes up a calibration protocol saved into the calibrator non-volatile memory storage.

The contents of delivery includes a software providing for the following functions:

  • calibrator-PC communication through the interface of the standard RS-232 (with the help of an interface cable);
  • reading the calibration protocols for the flow transducer from the calibrator memory and transfer to a PC;
  • management of the protocol archive in the calibrator memory storage;
  • keeping protocol archive on a PC;
  • completion and printing a flow transducer calibration protocol;
  • setting the date and time in the calibrator;

calibration table editing.

  1. Calibrator ЭнИ-251 is very convenient for the use in plant conditions to set and adjust flow transducers. In the continuous change mode a calibrator generates a simulation signal and measures an output signal from a flow transducer. It is one of the signals: current, period or frequency. The indicator shows the measured signal value (absolute), calculated value and error (signed). After error demonstration (for several seconds) the calibrator again measures an input signal (in a cycle). The measurement mode is accessible in any point given in the calibration table. Besides, it is allowed to enter an arbitrary flow value. Other parameters for measurement and generation are calculated by the calibrator in the automatic mode.
